A compound bow is a modern advancement to the classical bow in that it utilizes a system of cables and pulleys to enhance leverage when drawing, holding, and releasing a bow. The pulleys, also known as cams, allow the archer to maintain stability when an arrow is drawn back which aides when taking aim at a target. Compound bows are excellent for increased accuracy, distance, and use in various climates and environments.
