The P229 is a version of the P228 made especially for the US market. Used extensively by military and law enforcement personnel in the US and abroad, the P229 differs from the 228 mostly in that its slide is made from a machined piece of steel, rather than stamped and formed from sheet metal. This makes it slightly heavier, which is necessary when chambering larger rounds such as .357 SIG and .40 Cal.
