description

The Spectre M4 was designed in the mid-1980s by two Italian gun engineers, Roberto Teppa and Claudio Gritti, and was produced at Società Italiana Tecnologie Speciali S.p.A. (“SITES” for short). The Spectre M4 is a submachine gun that was developed as a compact and light-weight option to be used by specialized police units during close-combat situations. Spectre M4s are double-action, recoil-operated firearms with a closed bolt system. The Spectre M4 is easily recognized due to its unique barrel shroud, which completely hides the barrel from sight, and contains a few openings to assist in cooling the barrel during rapid firing. Spectre M4s are made mostly of polymer however the receiver is made from stamped-steel. While production in Italy ceased in 1997 a small number of Spectre M4s were produced in Switzerland. Today, the Spectre M4s are used by armed forces in both Italy and Switzerland and a number have been exported to international markets.
